Personal nouns are important components of national cultures, which reflect the characteristics of nations to a certain extent and incarnate the interpersonal social relations. Since the personal pronoun is a part of personal deixis, the contrastive study on personal pronouns in English and Japanese will be significant to the learning and communication of English and Japanese languages and cultures.Personal pronouns in English are less than Japanese on the aspect of amount; but the actual frequencies of use of English are greatly higher than Japanese.Personal pronouns used by bilingual learners are often abruptly appeared in articles. There is no denying that the incorrect and farfetched using of personal pronouns does occur due to the limitation of learners'foreign language proficiency, and at the same time they are also affected by the native languages. In addition, it is observed that Japanese learners in China are affected by English language to some extent. This paper aims to make a contrastive analysis on the using situation of personal pronouns with the respective characteristics of English and Japanese personal pronouns as the core. It is hoped that the reasons of the differences of using frequencies of English and Japanese personal pronouns are to be found.Through the contrastive analysis on the using of personal pronouns in the native language setting from perspectives of both English and Japanese, this paper summarizes the using characteristics of two kinds of personal pronouns, makes an in-depth analysis of internal causes of creating different characteristics and expects to provide certain helps for the studying of English and Japanese learners.
