Doris Lessing is one of the greatest female literary figures in British contemporary literature. She is prolific with a strong sense of innovation and upgrading in composing works. No one can ever predict the content of her next novel due to the broad concerns ranging from racial discrimination, gender problems, cold war, and nuclear proliferation to elder's rights in her works. In 2007, Lessing won the Nobel Prize in Literature. Before this lofty reward, she has been shrouded in remarkable prizes and potent honor, which manifest her widespread recognition in the world at large and bestow spur for more magnificent works from her.It is innovative of Lessing's love, again to choose an aged female Sarah as the protagonist and her emotional experience as the subject of the novel. Being an aged woman of aptitudes, after many years of arduous striving, Sarah acquired brilliancy in professional career but futility in love. Retained glamour and individualistic disposition rendered her fierce and youth-like longing for romance, but reality frustrated her for her seniority in age. In the domain of China, the probing of the book is just in embryo, which leaves enormous room for learners to endeavor to pursue the underlying interpretation of it.The thesis will dissect the protagonist's emotional frustration and other aspects by probing the mirror image in novel.
