A Study On The Verbs In Mengcheng Dialect

In Mengcheng Dialect, there exist abundant verbs. They are similar to and different from Mandarin verbs. This thesis is on the preliminary research in Mengcheng Dialect, mainly studies the verbs of Mengcheng Dialect in the three aspects, that is classification, grammar characteristics and the particular phenomenon.Adopting the traditional classification standard, we can classify the verbs of Mengcheng Dialect into two ways:in the universality, we explore the verbs of Mengcheng Dialect in the internal structural forms and in the individuality, the verb can be divided into transitive verb and intransitive verb according to if it can adhere to object. Among these, the compound word and transitive verb is of priority in study. The compound words in Mengcheng Dialect verb can be divided into coordinate construction, append construction, supplement construction and control construction. Among them, the control construction is the most. As to transitive verbs, some must adhere to object and the other doesn't have to, the former also can be classified into several situations:the object must be somebody, the object must be something, or both are proper, the final sort is the object must have numeral ahead.Concerning the grammar characteristics of Mengcheng Dialect verb, we can analyze it from two aspects:combining with given words and the role it plays in an sentence.The part of former are similar to Mandarin verbs, but also have its own unique characteristics. For example, "hei","xia""hu"can qualify verb, "si", "lan","hui"can be used as complement. "la""hu""chi"can be used as affix of verbs.About the reduplication of the verbs of Mengcheng Dialect,it can be divided into single syllable verbs and double syllable verbs. Once single syllable verbs be reduplicated, meaning and whether to adhere to object don't change, but the tone is milder. The reduplication of double syllable verbs can be divided into:AAB pattern, ABAB pattern, AABB pattern. Among these, AABB pattern convert verb into adjective. As to the role verbs play in a sentence, we can study it when it is used as predicate, subject, object, and attribute, adverbial and complement. Concerning the particular phenomenon of the verbs of Mengcheng Dialect, we mainly study the phenomenon of "one word, several meanings "and" one meaning, several words ",the verbs which have the same form and distinct meaning comparing with Mandarin verbs, and the verbs which have unique features of Mengcheng's custom and local culture.
