A Study On The Ancient Local Records For Mindong

Mindong equivalent to the administrative area of Ningde City contains Jiaocheng District and the other eight counties such as Fuan, Fuding, Xiapu, Zherong, Shouning, Gutian, Pingnan and Zhouning. Mindong, to the south of Zhejiang Province, has great mountains and fantastic rivers. A lot of talented persons are fostered by this brilliant place. Mindong is famous as Coastal Zoulu. A good tradition of taking local records for Mindong has been passed down from one generation to another, even though this area has ranges of mountains, inconvenient transportation and undeveloped economy. The local records for Mindong originate from as early as Song Dynasty. There are now as many as forty kinds of ancient local records which are quite precious as historical data because of their abundant contents. They are quite helpful for developing economy and improving politics. The ancient local records for Mindong have been further studied and organized in recent years, which has greatly advanced the study on Chinese Etiquettes Controversy, Religion Case in Qing Dynasty, History of Sanduao, Ancient Buildings of Langqiao, Japanese Pirates of Ming Dynasty, Coastal Defensive and History of Gantanggang, Sia-ka. However, it is pity that there are no works to organize the local records for Mindong, even a case study doesn't exist. This article with Mindong as its object of study is trying to effectively organize and probe the conserve and loss condition, edition, feature, value and utilizing of the ancient local records in this area. In this way, on the one hand, those ignored ancient local records could be rediscovered and enter the eyesight of scholars; on the other hand, excavating the value of those old local records for recording, consulting and educating, judging them and recommending them in order to attract the public's attention. All of these studies could be used for reference for the modernization of Mindong, that is, Ningde City.
