Japan is the only country with an oriental background of the world's developed countries. Although they have a completely different national traditions, style and cultural roots from Western, their design which beauty people's life is on the leading position of the world. The Japanese furniture design has features such as simple, natural, low, delicate, etc, particularly modern Japanese furniture design fuses foreign culture into the traditional, combining with modern technology, materials, tools, and being unique in the world furniture design. it becomes a reference which is studied by The neighboring Chinese.This paper analyzed the interaction between Japanese culture and design on the background of Japanese society, combining with a large number of historical pictures and modern Japanese furniture pictures, then described the Japanese traditional furniture and its innovation. Finally, this paper has investigated the revelation which is brought by The new Japanese-style furniture design.The new Japanese-style furniture is a kind of modern furniture which is a combination between western culture and traditional culture of Japan. His kind of furniture appeared during Meiji. It displayed different characteristics with the process of abstracting foreign culture. New Japanese-style furniture uses smooth straight line and beautiful curve line in appearance and form. On the other hand, it prefers simple, natural and plain decoration. They prefer to expose the connection of structure directly, adopt natural light color, and fit the short and small physical characteristics that the Japanese are in order to suit their life style. The designing ideas of new Japanese-style furniture came from the thinking of "Japanese spirit but western tech". It contains abstracting foreign culture, perfect combination between tradition and modern, advocating natural, people-oriented, taking function as the prior aspect, skillful work, and emphasizing details. The most important inspire this designing idea brings to Chinese furniture design is 'combination'. the 'combination' represent in two aspect. The first one is we should abstract foreign culture selectively and motive. The second one is we should respect traditional culture and enhance it. So we can design the furniture which fit the contemporary Chinese.
