Experiential teaching was used widely into all levels of education and teaching from the middle and end of last century, and has formed a comparative maturity teaching system, which has been playing a very important role in improving students'comprehensive quality. It was firstly in the 1990s of last century that the implementation of experiential teaching was clearly pionted out, and recently it has aroused wide acceptance and received better practical effects. Based on the basic theory and relative education and teaching concepts, and combined with the basic features of higher vocational English teaching, the thesis clears the connotation and characteristics of higher vocational experiential teaching of English, and analyzes the effect and its influencing factors by designing relative teaching experiments, which provide the implementation of experiential teaching with the firsthand experimental information. The thesis also puts forward poignant suggestions and countermeasures.In the introduction, it elaborates the research background and the meaning of the thesis, sketches the overall structure of the thesis, and holds forth the significance, objectives, major issues to be solved of the research. In which the thesis has a close look at some typical problems that the guiding ideology is indefinite in higher vocational English teaching, the teaching model deviates from the English teaching objective and the teaching circumstances disagrees with English teaching needs.The first chapter is the review of pertinent literature. First, it reviews the connotation and characteristics of experiential teaching, the roles by teachers and students, the sustainable surroundings, and the relevant studies on high vocational college English from the current research situation of experiential teaching at home, then it reviews the experiential teaching theory, teaching model, teaching process and experiential teaching evaluation from the current research situation of experiential teaching abroad, which lays the foundation for the research..The second chapter is the theoretical part. It probes into the theory basis of this study. As a teaching mode with far-reaching influences, the experiential teaching is equipped with the relatively full-scale theoretical basis, such as, Constructivism Theory, esp., Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory, which is of great significance in constructing the theoretical basis and teaching mode of experiential teaching.The third chapter elaborates the connotation of higher vocational experiential teaching of English. Combined with the research needs, it gives a definition to higher vocational experiential teaching of English from the basic concept, and have a thoroughly discussion on it from multi-angles, the higher vocational experiential teaching of English is considered as one kind of teaching models based on life, centered on students, directed by items and activities, in which students participate actively, the principle of" teaching for practising, practising for using" is put into practice,and students'abilities of cooperative learning and "learning to meet practical needs" are given prominence to improve.The forth chapter discusses the implementation of higher vocational experiential teaching of English. First, it takes a discussion on the basic issues from the feasibility and applicableness.Then the chapter clearly discourses the higher vocational experiential teaching of English from the implementation concept and process.The fifth chapter is the experimental analysis. During the experimental period,98 students in 2007 were divided into the experimental class and the control class, and after one year, the ideal result was obtained. The chapter discusses the experimental process and result analysis from experimental objectives, experimental subjects, experimental instruments, experimental procedure, data analysis and qualitative analysis and so on, and at last, arrives at the favorable conclusion that the experiential teaching of English is superior to traditional English teaching models, and it facilitates to arouse students' learning English interest and improve their English comprehensive communication abilities.The last part is the conclusion. It is divided into two parts, in which the improvement of higher vocational English teaching by the experiential teaching and the rational thinking on implementing the experiential teaching are discussed separately. And it discusses deeply the model of experiential teaching and other teaching models, the design of experiential activities, the evaluation of students and the strategies of how to impel the teaching model in higher vocational colleges.
