The Explorations Of Symbol In Installation Art

Semiotics is derived from the structural linguistics, all the forms of expressions could be seen as symbols, and the meanings of symbol depend on the practice, relationships and systems that accumulated by history, culture and social realities. Symbol is a external expressions of the senses, which reflects introspective experiences including emotional, cognitive, aesthetic and aspiration. It is a method for abstract with strict unity and logic.The image of art represents a symbol system with the connotations of object and oneself in art. The semiotics provides an effective method to analyze art symbol systems and it lays a solid foundation for the formation of Art Semiotics. Art symbol mainly reflects emotions and subjective experiences, it achieves the introspective experiences including cognition, understanding, communication and expression from human beings. It has some features such as esthetic sense, abstractness, ineffablity, emotion and expression.Installation Art is indispensable in so many art disciplines. As a special spiritual product, it has complicated types, and it mixes the spiritual significance, the introspective experiences and the aesthetic emotions of artists. The artists' keen aesthetic ability in artistic creations plays a key role of guide and performance. In order to grasp the realistic significance and reveal the aesthetic essence of works, besides grasping the intentions and ideas of artists, we should analyze in a rational way and also need to resort to semiotics.This paper attempts to use a method of semiotics to analyze Installation Art in a valid way. It unfold both in expressive symbols and symbolic symbols, and analyze the creative-ness of symbol, explore the existence value of semiotics, try to construct a mode to reveal the essence and function in Installation Art. Establishing a standard theory or method to analyze and research Installation Art works could exert a better action of semiotics in the creation of Installation Art. We expect to see more excellent works within those principles and rules.
