A Deconstructive Study Of Han Shan Fever And His Translated Poems In English

Under the perspective of deconstruction theory, the thesis intends to explore the literary phenomenon "Han Shan fever" by comparing and analyzing the different English versions of Han Shan's poems by Waley, Snyder and Watson.Firstly, the thesis discusses "Han Shan fever" of translating Han Shan's poems and studying the translations of his poems in the English world. Successful creative translations of Waley, Snyder and Watson bring about more translating of Han Shan's poems by American translators, and the diverse English versions of Han Shan's poems not only inspire many scholars'enthusiasm for studying Han Shan's translated poems in English, but also help a lot in the reading and dissemination of Han Shan's poems.Secondly, it states "Han Shan fever" of studying Han Shan's poems in China caused by the translations of Han Shan's poems and their related studies. The popularity of Han Shan in America first arouses the attention of the scholars from Hong Kong and Taiwan, and then their studies on the translations of Han Shan's poems attract mainland scholars to make relevant researches on Han Shan and his poems as well as his translated poems in English.Thirdly, by comparing Han Shan's translated poems in English by Waley, Snyder and Watson, and analyzing "Han Shan fever", the thesis manifests deconstruction translation theory that the survival of the source text depending on the translated text, the equal status between the translator and the original author and the creativity in translation. In other words, the source text must depend on the translated text if it wants to survive, and it is only a good translation that gives a new life to the source text, and even exceeds it.Lastly, it further demonstrates the potential explanatory power of deconstruction theory for translation practice and studies.
