College English Curriculum Requirements (2007) distinctly puts forward character and objectives of college English and teaching requirements clearly. It points out that, as China is a large country with conditions that vary from region to region and from college to college, College English teachers should follow the principle of providing different guidance for different groups of students and instructing them in accordance with their aptitude so as to meet the specific needs of individualized teaching. Individualization of College English teaching (CELT for short) is keeping with the trend of college education reform and goes with the tide of lifelong democratization education in the world. Thus, it is an important content of College English teaching reform to carry out the College English individualized teaching.Individualization of CELT is an important teaching form. It helps students learn actively and independently. It is also an important mean to train the creative talents and improve the quality of college English education. It has many advantages to be compared with the traditional teaching model. However, there are certain difficulties to carry out individualized teaching successfully in the process of College English teaching. This thesis carries out a systematic and scientific research on the current situation of Collge English individualized teaching. It tries to find out the relevant factors influencing the current English individualization and puts forward the corresponding suggestions and strategies. It aims at revealing that the implementary of individualization of CELT plays a significant role in the cultivation of creative talents. It also provides certain theoretical reference to carry out the individualization of CELT so as to improve teaching effects further and achieve sustainable development of foreign language learning.The present study adopts literature review, questionnaire survey, interview and other research methods to analyze the current situation of College English individualized teaching.The theoretical basis of this thesis is humanist learning theory, constructivism theory, and autonomous learning theory. It explains the connotation and features of College English individualized teaching. Questionnaire and interview of this research are based on 2+1+X English teaching model and 1:8 individualization tutoring classroom in Hebei University of Science and Technology. According to students'questionnaire analysis, the factors influences College English individualized teaching involve the school to college, the lack of learning interest and motivation, and the unreasonable choices of learning strategies and so on. The summary of teachers'interview reveals the important factors affecting individualization of CELT, which are the change of teachers' educational conceptions, the master of teachers' professional quality and skills, the improvement syllabus design, the reform of teaching evaluation mechanism, the building of training mechanism for teacher the establishment of modern teaching circumstances.This thesis further analyzes and proposes the strategies to perfect college English individualized teaching. It includes the strategies design both teaching level and teaching administration level. Strategies for teaching include:changing teaching conception, taking students'individualized development as the central task, shifting teachers'traditional role in class, managing individualized teaching in class and moderninzing teaching means. Stategies for teaching administration invole:reforiming teaching evaluation mechanism, building training mechanism for teacher, improving syllabus design and setting up modern teaching circumstances. These strategies provide certain available value for college English individualized teaching in order to respect the discrepant individuality of student truly and follow the principle of providing different guidance for different groups of students and instructing them in accordance with their aptitude.
