The teacher-student classroom interaction is a dynamic process where teachers and students communicate with and influence each other in the classroom teaching.Effective teacher-student interaction in English classes not only is helpful for teachers to complete the teaching tasks effectively,to improve the teaching qualities and enhance their professional qualities, but also is of great use for students to develop the actual abilities to use English and to cultivate autonomous learning abilities. With the development of college English teaching, the teacher-student interaction has attracted great attention and is widely used in college English classrooms. But the effect of it is not satisfactory.Under such circumstances and based on the interaction theories and the effective teaching theories, the author conducts a case study in Inner Mongolia University of Technology for two months. This research aims to investigate the current situation of teacher-student interaction in college English classes,to find out its influencing factors and then to propose some strategies to improve the college English teaching. The following research questions are discussed in this thesis:1.What is the current situation of teacher-student interaction in college English classes?2.What are the factors that influence the teacher-student interaction in college English classes?3.What are the strategies to improve the teacher-student interaction in college English classes from the perspective of effective teaching? In order to find out the answers to these questions and testify the effectiveness of teacher-student interaction, the research methods of classroom observation, videorecording, questionnaires and interviews are adopted. The results of the investigation show that the current situation of teacher-student interaction in college English classes is not satisfactory.Firstly, the teachers are the centersof interactive activities and dominates the whole class.Secondly,The interactive ways are usually simple and single. Most common types of interaction is teacher-individual and teacher-whole class.Thirdly,asking-answering is the most common interactive pattern in college English classes. The teachers are lack of questioning skills, but they are good at guiding the students to correct their errors.Fourthly, the teachers influence the students directly by lecturing and commanding and offer the students a large amount of positive feedback to arouse their learning interests.Lastly, most students are passive in interactive activities. The reasons are analyzed in 4 aspects: teachers' factors, students' factors, environmental factors and social factors. Then some suggestions are given, including optimizing questioning strategies, implementing group/pair work in the EFL classroom, changing the teachers' roles, creating a positive and relaxing classroom environment, designing more output tasks and reducing classroom anxiety. These measures will make up for the limitations of teacher-student interaction and improve the quality of English teaching. It is noticed that the importance of teacher-student interaction in college English classes has been widely recognized. But how to realize the effective teacher-student interaction still needs great effort and further study from all.
