The language has become a social mirror, and the development of language follows closely the development of society. Address forms being part of the language, have quite a number of peculiar features. In this paper, based on social linguistics theory, the research, analysis and classification of absence of some forms of address in modern Chinese language is conducted, as seen in cognitive and cultural perspective, the absence of some address forms in the language is given a scientific research and discussion, and suggestions on the problem are proposed at the end of the paper.The paper is divided into four chapters.The first chapter is introductory, as it proposes the problem, and the author suggests that researching the problem only from cultural point of view is not sufficient, analyses connections between culture and cognition, and the relation between language, cognition and culture, summarizes the history of previous researches on the absence of address forms in the language and the present state of the problem, points out their central issues and shortcomings. The author analyses the relation between address forms and address words, clarifies the theoretical basis of this paper, application, research objectives and known drawbacks of the research.The second chapter is the classification of the language phenomenon of address forms in modern Chinese language, and also the first part of the problem analysis, also divides the address forms into two types-kinship forms of address and social forms of address. The author indicates that no matter what kind of address forms is seen-kinship forms or social, they both do not have the position in the language. The classification of the address forms is proposed:the kinship address forms can generally be divided into two types, social address forms can be divided into four types.The third chapter is the origins of the address forms analysis, is the second part of the problem analysis and also the most important chapter of the paper. Some specific phenomena of address forms absence are researched from the cognitive and cultural positions. The author indicates that the origins of the absence of address forms lie in the social changes. Social changes lead to the changes of people's concepts, way of thinking and values. Contradictions between the traditional set of values also containing the peculiarities of the unique Chinese culture and the new values of modern society have created this phenomenon of absence, pointed out the inevitability of this absence. The fourth chapter is devoted to suggestions how to fill in the vacant address forms, proposes the solutions to the problem. Based on chapter three research the author proposes five types of replacements advice. They are:to reform and rebuild the ethics of the language, introduce missing forms of address, respect the ritual of self-introduction and introductions of other people, use generalized kinship forms of address, and use generalized forms of social address. The ways how to use the methods proposed are described in the summary of the paper.
