Gan Lu Zi Shu, writen by Yan Yuan Sun, is an important orthogrephy works in early Tang Dynasty. It played an important influence on the development and criterion of Chinese characters. Gan Lu Zi Shu reflected the actual usage of the characters in Tang Dynasty. The development of Chinese characters is inheritable, so we can't research them independently. For the characteristics of the era, there were a lot of folk characters in Wei-Jin-South-North Dynasty, which had a great impact on later generations. These folk characters were kept in the inscriptions. So comparing these inscriptions with Gan Lu Zi Shu can not only discuss the inheritance and evolution of Chinese characters, but also summarize the concept of orthography of Tang Dynasty.This paper focuses on 337 groups of orthography and folk characers in Gan Lu Zi Shu. Intercept different nonstandard forms of each character from inscription rubbings of Wei-Jin-South-North Dynasty and attach example sentences after it. Investigate the usage of the character in the inscriptions of Wei-Jin-South-North Dynasty and analyze its characteristics of inheritance and evolution. The main body is researching the 337 groups characters according to the forming way of folk characters. It is divided into seven categories and several subcategories. Seven categories as follow:First, the increase and decrease of component. Second, the increase and decrease of the amount of strokes. Third, the mode of creating characters. Fourth, generalization. Fifth, the influence of chirography. Sixth, borrow. Seventh, similar。After classification, compare it with the material of folk characters in Wei-Jin-South-North Dynasty's inscriptions again to analyze the cause, evolution and basis of form of the secular body, and research its development tendency and the rule. Provide gist for studying variant forms, reference for arranging folk characters and normalizing the characters and help for old book arrangement and literature explaination.
