Reading ability is an important indicator of a person's language proficiency. As a language specific course, the teaching aims of Chinese Reading class are to train the Chinese reading skills of foreign students, help them develop good reading habits and improve their overall reading ability. Therefore, skill in teaching Chinese reading is immensely important.Based on Chinese Reading class instructional theory and classroom teaching methods, the present paper chooses three micro skills of guessing word meaning which best reflects Chinese language and characters and then elaborate by analyzing and explaining the skills and skills training method; lastly, results with skills teaching and skills training implications are given. The textbook Elementary Chinese reading courseâ…¡was used,with micro skills teaching methodology in elementary Chinese reading (the second semester) as the study topic.The present paper begins with defining what Chinese reading teaching is, and then discusses the aims of Chinese reading teaching by focusing on the training reading skills. It also expounds and proves the significance of micro skills in Chinese reading by combining with the specific contents of micro skills of reading, which lays the theoretical basis for the following parts. The study is based on three micro skills that include guessing word meaning by looking at the structures of Chinese characters, word morphology, and context clues. Above all, each micro skill is unfolded according to the classifications of lateral direction and longitudinal direction. As for the part of lectures, it is the most proper teaching methodology based on the each micro skill, which is formed according to the present author's teaching practices and analysis of Chinese reading teaching results. Also the practice of skills training mainly analyses the related item types of every skills training based on different items, and then tries to provide some help for designing praxis of skills training by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the related items.Lastly, it can be concluded from the study that stressing the training of reading abilities should be put into every process of teaching; uniqueness and enjoyment should be put together in micro skills teaching. Furthermore, training students'abilities to use micro skills according to the context should be emphasised, which can provide some suggestions for teaching.
