With more and more foreign people come to learn Chinese and English as second language,there are Chinese mania and English mania. Exercise is the method to achieve reading skills soas to gather information. Under the circumstance of second language acquisition, how toarrange the exercises of reading micro-skills so that the second language learners caneffectively master them? The author of this thesis chose two kinds of reading textbooks whichare typical for second language learners, one is “Intermediate Chinese Reading Course”, theother one is “Reading Course”, and study the ways these two textbooks arrange the exercises ofthree reading micro-skills: micro-skills of word guessing, micro-skills of sentenceunderstanding, and micro-skills of paragraph and passage understanding from the perspectivesof amount of exercises, exercise types and the nature of exercises. The main purpose is toprovide some suggestions for the arrangement of the exercise design of micro-skills of readingtextbooks in second language study.
