It is Yan Geling's invariable literary thoughts and feelings to express the real deep affections and experiences of women. As a Chinese American writer, she has invented one after another story about Chinese women. All her stories are unique, intricate and imbued with deep infections. Lost Daughter of Happiness has drawn its material from the early life of Chinese immigrants in San Francisco and the American historical documents about the deformed life of Chinese prostitutes who are sold to America. The author, Yan Geling fabricates an unorthodox love story with her imagination crossing space-time. Through this story, Yan reveals a real bloody history of the Chinese immigrants. In the novel, Fusang is a famous Chinese prostitute in San Francisco. When Chris visits her at 12, the cultural differences and amazement cause a special emotion between them. Undoubtedly, Fusang is a weak. She is both an oppressed woman under the feudal system and an object to be discriminated in the society of the white. So it is obvious that Fusang bears many unspeakable miseries in such surroundings. However, Ms. Yan does not use much word to describe Fusang's reaction to her long-time misery. Instead, she describes Fusang's calmness and meekness in front of all the tribulations and crimes with her sensitive sensation of a female. Yan has an insight into the tenacious vitality of Chinese women under the incompleteness of love and destiny at that time. Fusang's silence in any adversity impresses people more deeply than the shout. My paper takes the text analysis technique to analyze The Lost Daughter of Happiness from a fairly new angle. By analyzing the heroine Fusang's reaction and behaviors in misery and humiliation, it praises the light of human nature which is reflected on a prostitute who is a controversial prostitute struggling underneath the American society. This paper subverts the distorted Chinese image in the eyes of the westerners. And it corrects the westerners'oriental imagination toward the image of Chinese.
