In the opinions of Chinese aesthetic, all the things in the world are the existence form of life. Human and nature are the unity of harmonious co-existence which cannot be divided. Under the influence of Chinese ancient philosophy theory, the meanings of life are extended and applied in the art territory. Qiyun mix the essence of Chinese philosophy culture together, is one of the most important aesthetic categories with national characteristics, and also, it is one of the most important criterion and aesthetic principles.Because of Chinese specific, unique culture, religious spirit and ecogeographic region, Chinese ancient statuary formed its own characteristics and unique cultural symbols. Pottery figurine sculpture has the great significance in the formation of prophase sculpture culture morphology, and also has active influence on deepening the concept of creation and art. It is perfect personification of spirit of Chinese traditional culture. During HAN and TANG dynasty, the sculpture with powerful and broad characteristic reached the two peak of the Chinese statuary development. To a large extent, these periods sculpture contributed the perfection of the system of ancient statuary. Pottery figurine sculpture during HAN and TANG dynasty occupied the important position in the Chinese art phylogeny.The spirit of life is the work's soul, and qiyun is exactly the core content of the spirit of life, that is to say the work's spirit of life is embodied by qiyun. We can analysis of pottery figurine sculpture's qiyun in HAN and TANG dynasty mainly in four aspects as follows. First, qiyun embodied in object's spirit in life. The targets can be figures, animals, landscapes, flowers, birds and so on. Second, qiyun embodied in subject's spirit in life. The object is personality, culture, talent and so on showed by artist's spirit of life which is reappearance of all things'spirit in universe through linguistic arts unlike others. Third, qiyun embodied in vehicles'spirit in life. The object is strong vitality displayed by art image or imago in works. Forth, various kind linguistic arts which are used to display each level spirit of life above. Through the analysis of qiyun of pottery figurine sculpture in HAN and TANG dynasty, we can find work's imago was not only displayed by various kinds of techniques, but also object (all things in universe) was revealed by subject (artist himself) in many-sided. The works'life of pottery figurine sculpture during HAN and TANG dynasty was given by the form, manner and vigorous spirit; the enduring aesthetic ideas can also be the source of artistic creation today. This article analyzed the content, style and the spirit of life of art of pottery figurine sculpture works during HAN and TANG dynasty through the point of view of qiyun, further validated the significance of opinion of"qiyun"in the creation of contemporary sculpture. We hope some thinking will be given to today's art creation.
