With the development of modernization of education, teaching devices and equipments are changing nowadays. The process of education modernization has advanced the pace of the reformation of English teaching. It is emphasized that the listening teaching, for long period of time, has been adopted in a sole and boring teaching mode:listening the tape-doing the exercises-checking the answer. It is widely admitted that this teaching approach hasn't led to satisfactory achievement results. In this case, many language scholars and teachers try to use different teaching methods to improve students'English listening ability, of which English movie is regarded as an effective way of achieving the goal.This thesis studies the feasibility and effectiveness of teaching listening for English majors with English movies. In order to justify the application of this method from theoretical foundation and some related researches both home and abroad.Constructive theory, the input Hypothesis of Krashen, motivation theory etc. The theories surveyed provide sufficient basis for this new method of listening course. Then, this thesis summarizes the characteristics of traditional listening method and the advantages of English movie watching as the main way of English listening class. Based on the mentioned theories and the advantage of English movies, the author does the preliminary investigation. The results show that students are interested in this method of studying. Thus, the author conducts the English movie to teach listening class from 2010.3 till 2010.7. In this experiment, the students are divided into two groups, experimental group and control group.The differences between the two classes lie in that the control group has a class in which the traditional teaching methods have been used, while the experimental group has a class in which movies have been employed as the main vehicle of teaching pretest and posttest are conducted for two groups at the beginning of the experiment and the end of the experiment respectively. These tests'data were processed by SPSS 13.0. The statistical results from the experiment indicate that the experiment got the great success; it means English movie as the main listening input is an efficient teaching method and plays important role in listening teaching.
