Listening plays a very important role in middle school English teaching.According to The Instructions and Test(2019 Edition)for Middle School in Henan Province,listening fully examines students? ability to use phonetic knowledge,grammar knowledge,vocabulary knowledge and pragmatic knowledge in social situations.However,in the process of middle school English listening teaching in China,most English teachers pay more attention to the teaching of language knowledge,ignoring the cultivation of language application ability,and the traditional listening teaching has little effect by adopting a relatively simplistic teaching mode,which directly affects the improvement of middle school students? English listening ability.Based on the theory of Constructivism and Krashen hypothesis,the study attempts to bring English movies into middle school listening teaching,and designs the process of applying English movies to listening teaching.This teaching model is divided into four stages.The stage of pre-class preparation: the teacher leads the students to find the background knowledge related to the movie so that the students can improve the understandable language input in the process of actively acquiring knowledge;the stage of introducing the movie: the teacher guides the students to share the relevant background knowledge through “brainstorming” so as to form new knowledge and experience;the stage of watching the movie: the teacher chooses the movie clips which are highly related to the theme of this unit to be played and explained in class,and the teacher uses intuitive language and vivid pictures to create a low emotional filtering environment for the students;practice stage,the teacher combines the playing of the movie with the exercises of guiding students and organizing classroom activities,and combines the information input of the movie with the output of knowledge points mastered by students,so as to form the meaning construction of the knowledge.This study focuses on two questions:(1)How can English movies be applied to teaching English listening to middle school students?(2)In what ways does English movie-assisted teaching help to improve middle school students? listening ability?In order to further verify the effectiveness of English movies in English listening teaching in middle school,the paper takes the students of two parallel classes in Grade 9 of Yangshan Middle School in Xinyang as experimental subjects to carry out an 18-week contrastive teaching experiment.Class 1 is regarded as the experimental class,which adopts English movie-assisted listening teaching,while Class 3 is the ordinary class,which adopts the traditional teaching method.In this study,the data from listening tests,interview and questionnaire survey are statistically analyzed by software SPSS20.0.The results show that:(1)The teaching process and steps of English movie-assisted middle school English listening teaching are operable;(2)English movie-assisted middle school English listening teaching can not only stimulate students? motivation for English listening learning,but also increase their knowledge of Chinese and western culture,and it can improve middle school students? listening scores to a certain extent.English film-assisted listening teaching is more effective in improving students' listening ability than traditional listening teaching.English movie-assisted listening teaching is more effective in improving students? listening ability than traditional listening teaching.According to the research conclusion,the author analyzes the shortcomings of this experiment and puts forward some suggestions and prospects for the future teaching research.
