Nowadays, methods and equipments for teaching are changing with the development of modernization of education. The reforms of English teaching have been greatly promoted by the process of education modernization. It is noteworthy that a sole and boring teaching mode: explaining new words, listening to the tapes, doing the exercises and checking the answers has been conducted for quite a period of time. In order to change this sole and boring teaching method, improve English learners'listening comprehension abilities efficiently, many English teachers have been exploring to find different teaching methods, of which teaching with English movies is considered to be an effective way of obtaining that goal.In this paper, the author tries to study whether it is feasible and effective to have listening teaching lessons with English movies for students whose major is English Nursing. Dfferent from other researches , according the characteristic of English nursing, the author chooses English movies related to nursing or medicine together with other English movies to have lessons. This not only can make students learn English but enrich them with relevent professional knowledge.In order to justify the application of this method, the author refered to some related theories: Constructivism theory, the Input Hypothesis and Affective Hypothesis of Krashen, and Motivation theory and so on. All these theories provide sufficient theoretical basis for listening teaching with English movies. Further more, the author also presents strong theoretical support to this paper through the close study of related researches both home and abroad.Three research methodologies are employed in this study: Before the study, the author designed a questionnaire to make a preliminary investigation including the students'interest, attitude towards English movies, the selection of movies, preparation before the class, requirement, and procedure of watching movies. The results of the investigation show that students are interested in this method of learning. According to the result of the questionnaire and theories mentioned above, the author introduces a class model of utilizing movies to listening class from March 2011 till July 2011. The author uses two classes in this experiment, one class as experimental group and the other one as control group, there are 60 students in both classes and the students are girls.The author uses English movies and multimedia aids to have lessons for the experimental class, the text book'College English listening and speaking'and traditional teaching method for the control one. Furthermore, both groups are asked to take a pretest and a posttest at the beginning and the end of the semester, then the author analyses the data of these tests with the software SPSS13.0. The author analyses the self-reports of the students too.The major findings of the research are:1 English movies used in English listening teaching is feasible. English movies used in the classroom improve students' interest and motivation in listening learning, and enhance their desire of understanding foreign cultures. 2 Teachers are effective guides in the process of teaching listening through English movies .3 Active participation of students can help stimulate learning motivation and increase self-confidence4 Organizing principles in English language teaching classroom should help students to make gradual and orderly progress, organize student-centered and communicative classroom, focus on both input and output.The author got some revelation from the experiment and she also find some notable problems, and some suggestions are given on how to solve these problems.
