A Study Of Double-syllable Words-"一X" Denoting Continutity From Multiple Perspectives

This paper will deal with the common double-syllable words which could be lasted like"yi X"(一X) under the current popularity of lexicalization and grammaticalization .By studying their synchronic differences and diachronic evolution, we will conclude their rules and characteristic in lexicalization and grammaticalization. This paper can be divided into three parts.The first part is the introduction. With the conclusion for the current study on the lexicalization home and abroad, we will point out our own research-ideas and ways, and fix our research object.The second part as the core of the whole paper can be subdivided into two parts. In the chapter 2 ,we will point out the differences among the double syllable words like"yi X"(一X ) from the angle of syntactic ,semantics and pragmatics by comparing them in the modern Chinese synchronically. Chapter 3,Chapter 4 and Chapter 5 will describe and explain the evolution of double-syllable words like"yi X"(一X) including"yi zhi"(一直),"yi xiang"(一向)and"yi guan"(一贯)respectively and specifically .What's more we will point out their diachronic source and grammaticalized track."yi zhi"(一直),"yi xiang"(一向)evolve from the modified phrase of the same form, among them ,the former is influenced by the double-syllablization, the later is influenced by the translation of the Buddhist Scriptures. While"yi guan"(一贯)which is influenced by simplified expression evolves from the trans-layered structure"yi…yi guan…"(一……以贯……). After the phase of lexicalization ,they begin their grammaticalized ways respectively: the meaning of"yi zhi"(一直) evolves from the space concept to time concept and then to cognition concept, among which them time-space metaphorical mechanism works a lot;"yi xiang"(一向) experiences the virtualization from technical terms to manner adverb and then to temporal adverb, among which the change of the context works a lot in the formation of their syntactic function; in the grammaticalization of"yi guan"(一贯),cognitive factors in semantics and the change of context work a lot.The third part is the conclusion. By concluding the above ,this part will emphasize on the agent and mechanism behind the lexicalization and grammaticalization of"yi zhi"(一直),"yi xiang"(一向)and"yi guan"(一贯).With the combination of the diachronic study fruits, we will try to explain their differences in the modern Chinese.
