Zhang Henshui is the most productive writer themed by Anti-Japanese War. While he lived in Chongqing for eight years, he produced his works with Sino-Japanese War theme, such as "eighty-one dreams", "blood", "frost flower","demon's world", and"shadows of Bashan night". These resistance works have a close relationship with Chongqing, in which his novels are mostly settled. New regional experience and survival experience inspired the writer's creation and changed his ideas, which further contributed to the transformation of his work style. On the subject matter, he shifted from the genius arid beauty to the stage of the real life; on writing technique, the writer improved the method of chapter writing and explore new breakthrough continuously; on art style, realistic aesthetic style prevailed. It is his life experience in Chongqing that makes Zhang Henshui truly deepen his observation into the folk. His works in this period show a great concern for the common people, their feelings and their survival; cultural reflection and humanity; Zhang Henshui depicts Chongqing not only from its mountains, customs, but from his profound experience and the spiritual exploration.
