Study On The Relationship Between Undergraduates' Parental Rearing Pattern And Character Strengths

In recent years,Positive psychology developed to a psychology research hot spot.So I choose Character strengths,which is one of the most important content of positive psychology, as my research subject.From the point view of Parental rearing pattern,the research explore the relationship between parental rearing pattern and character strengths.The research use Chinese edition of EMBU and VIA-IS as my research measuring tools,tracing back the early family ststus,parental rearing pattern and behavior,to expore the relationship between parental rearing pattern and positive personality of colleage students.So the research could discover the relationship between positive personality,family status and factors of parental rearing pattern,and reveal the factors of family and parents closely related to positive personality.There are 378 colleage students participating the research.Analysis the data results,we could get the following conclusions:(1) In the 24 advantages,Chinese students have five significant factors:gratitude, love, honest, kind, justice.(2) Character strengths achieve significance level on gender,one-child and urban-rural level.(3) Parental rearing pattern achieve significance level on gender,one-child and urban-rural level.(4) The emotional warmness and excessive interference of father rearing pattern have positive correlations with character strengths,but reject,deny of father rearing have negative correlations with character strengths;The emotional warmness and understanding of mather rearing pattern have positive correlations with character strengths,but reject,deny of mather rearing have negative correlations with character strengths.(5) The rearing pattern of father has a significant prediction of character strengths,and it has big influences on character strengths.Among those factors,emotional warmness,understanding and excessive interference take the first place of the prediction.The rearing pattern of mather also has a significant prediction of character strengths,and it also has some influences on character strengths,but only the emotional warmness and understanding have significant prediction to character strengths.(6) We divided parental rearing pattern into the following types:the first one is positive rearing pattern including emotional warmness,understanding and interference; the second one is negative rearing pattern including reject,deny,punishment and sternness;the third one is neutral rearing pattern including preference and over-protection.The over-protection of father is negative,but the over-protection of mather is positive.Parental rearing pattern have big influences over the growth of children,especially on their characters.Ralative to positive rearing pattern,negative rearing pattern have less influences;and relative to father,mather have less influences on their characters.
