The Development And Influence Factors Of Zhaoqing City In Ming And Qing Dynasties

Zhaoqing city locates in the west of Guangdong province, downstream of West River, was a city of strategic importance in south of Five Ridges since ancient times, also was the birthplace of Cantonese culture. The establishment of Gaoyao County was in the WestHan Dynasty, then became the county seat, later was promoted and re-named Zhaoqing government office in Song Dynasty, to Ming and Qing Dynasties, Zhaoqing was the location of governor-general of Guangdong and Guangxi, then became the political and military center of West River and even Guangdong and Guangxi province, also got a rapid development in the economic and cultural aspects. Also holds the important position in the south of Five Ridges history especially in the urban development history.This paper consists introduction, body and conclusion. As the main structure of the body, following parts will be discussed. The first part, from the basic of natural and human geography of Zhaoqing city which is its survival and development. The second part, by discussing the establishment of the governor-general of Guangdong and Guangxi, at Wuzhou city in Guangxi province in Ming Dynasty, and analyzing the reasons of the governor-general's office changed to Zhaoqing city, such as historic position, social environment (military combat) and political factors and so on. The third part, mainly researching the construction and maintenance of the Zhaoqing city wall, the function and structure of the wall in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The fourth part, from the distribution and reasons of government buildings, schools and temples, residential area to reserch the spatial structure of the city.In this paper, Zhaoqing city in Ming and Qing Dynasties as the research object, based on the historical geography perspective, to analysis the development of Zhaoqing in Ming and Qing Dynasties, with a view to have a better understanding of the development and the factors of Zhaoqing in Ming and Qing. In addition, provides certain reference for city planning and construction of Zhaoqing which as a millennium city.
