As the aggravation of aging and the rapid growth of the population of elders, the whole society pay more and more attention to the happiness of elders. As known to all, the happiness of elders is the most impartment part of the real happiness of a city. This paper aims to study the psychological needs and mental health of the elderly, and examines the relationship between psychological needs and mental health of solitary elders. On the basis of the research, we did tentative establishment of community mental health service system for the elderly living alone, provide theoretical research and practical guidance for the building of mental health intervention and mental health service system for elderly people living alone in community. Paper has a strong theoretical and practical significance.This reach takes 287 solitary elders in Baoshan District in Shanghaias example, using combination of research methods, such as documents, interviews, questionnaires, measurements, investing the status of mental needs and mental health of solitary elders via interviewing 10 solitary elders, self-compiled questionnaire psychological needs of solitary elders in community, and the scale SCL-90. The research studied the types of mental needs, the satisfaction degrees of the mental needs, the mental health status of solitary elders, and the relationship between psychological needs and psychological health of solitary elders. This research studies the types and meet degree of psychological needs, the mental health status and the relations between status of mental needs and mental health of solitary elders.The results showed that demographic variables such as gender, age, educational level, economic status, living status are factors of psychological needs and mental health status of community elderly people living alone. The strongest psychological needs is belonging and love, while most elderly people living alone are vested into the mental needs type of belonging and love. There is correlation between psychological needs and the mental health status. The overall performance is that the higher level of satisfaction of psychological needs, the more mental healthier of elderly people living alone. Based on the results, we tried to build the mental health service system in community for elderly people living alone, and achieved certain results. Providing a certain model for reference and promotion of the community elderly living alone.
