During Southern Dynasties (386-581 AD) in ancient China, the imperial power began to exert great suppression on high-ranking scholar-bureaucrats, depriving them of their political rights they have once enjoyed. Nevertheless, the new situation brings the group of high-ranking scholar-bureaucrats no less opportunities as well as some adverse impacts. Under the new circumstance, it's a common concern for all Scholar-bureaucrats to maintain personal and family interests, and strive for further development. JiangYan, a born member of common Scholar-bureaucrats at that time, had been serving as an imperial official throughout three consecutive periods of Southern Dynasties including Song, Qi, Liang (420—557AD), and was finally conferred a rank of nobility. Jiang's politics and literary creation in these three period is by all means closely related to his endeavour to forcefully safeguard personal and family interests. In chapter I of this essay.l concentrate on expounding Jiang's social status in a new structure of Southern Dynasties and the opportunities and challenges he'd encountered during this period. Chapter II is an analysis of Jiang's political psychology and his literary creation experiences in Song Period. Then chapter III approaches the political power that Jiang had chosen to secure his own family against the backdrop of power campaigns in the regime of Qi. The last chapter develops a study of Jiang's politic affairs in his later years and the cause for his wits'declining in literary creation.
