As a giant among writers in 20th century, John Updike found the destination in the WASP subject ultimately. Through looked at American society in the latter of the 20th century, Updike fulfilled the dual responsibility of an artist and Christians. In such a huge story, the thought which the writer think about secular theology of Christian was throughout.This paper attempts to analyze the protagonist Harry Angstrom in Rabbit Tetralogy, which reflected the secular theology. And the paper endeavors to analyze the Christianity situation of religious through this image's action and heart, and investigates the secular thought of Christianity in Rabbit Tetralogy. In the process of close reading, the paper also attempts to analyze the relationship of secular theology and the modern pursuit of freedom and goodness.In theology, Updike affected apparently by two Christian thinkers of Kierkegaard and Karl Barth. This paper attempts to analyze those concepts---something and nothingness,a serenely unimprovable God,yes-but, to reveal what Updike succeeded the thought of two thinkers, and absorbed some aesthetic factors in the light of its artistic creation.To investigate variation of the modern secular religion, this paper quoted Pascal'proverb " charism of the movement, the stubborn heart; the external environment", and accordingly from the sacred sexuality, the instinct of the blind and good deeds, the representation of dissanctify.
