Gaudy art is an art phenomenon appeared after the Political Pop Art and the Hooligan art of the 90th last century which directly reflected the Chinese basic cultural features. It took the measurements of folk arts and commercial advertisements from the angles of artistic languages and forms; also it combined the concept of irony with itself to criticize the society of 90th last century which was almost materialized. The worsening vulgar city life is hide behind the luxuriousness and vainglory, the whole society is facing the spirit shortage and faith collapse, people are crazy about money, and tendency of artificial imitation to the western "aristocrat" are rising. Artistically, gaudy art broke the traditional aesthetic taste, "vulgar" and "kitsch" took the places of "loftiness" and "aesthetic", Of course, "kitsch" is just the surface of gaudy art, not the nature, it is a kind of art method took the measurement of imitation, nature is irony. Gaudy art's nature is Elite art, though the language of it is quit "kitsch", and creating thinking mode is realistic creating. Generally speaking,, this is the trying start of domestic artists creating the methods and themes which are full of national characteristics from the national social situations, traditional cultures and values; it broke through the expressive mode of the traditional academic art and modern art which followed the "85" new trend to gain the equal position in the communication with the western cultures; It symbolized the Chinese contemporary art creating has being changing from imitations to localizations, and contributed a lot to probe into the Chinese contemporary art development, with great social values.
