Since 1990s, Gaudy Art has been concerned as a feature of Chinese culture in the world wide. Economic globalization and information technology are the trends of the world's economic and social development. Regardless of whether people agree and support, it is difficult to change the existence and development of this objective trend. With the integration of world economy development and international exchanges being more frequent, the transmission of international cultural and the pattern of the entire world cultural are undergoing tremendous changes. Front of the opportunities and challenges, our economy has maintained rapid development, our national Competitiveness has strengthened, our international status has enhanced. So, our national culture is also acting an important role in the world cultural patterns. Since 1990s, the establishment of China socialist market economic system has initiated the Chinese society whole reforming. Social transformation embodied in the culture, art and other areas, especially reflected in the arts, the performance of the most prominent is the aesthetic and cultural transformation. Market as a double-edged sword, brought the economic prosperity, but brought rethinking of the human spirit at the same time. Gaudy Art as a new art form emerges in the specific political, economic, cultural and social context of China. The mid-90s, Gaudy Art as a new art form appeared in the mainland, both with the political pop and cynical realism, have been a large landscape of the development of Chinese art. They show development of Chinese culture in varying degrees, and they were the products of contemporary culture thinking on different stages of the artists. Especially, the emergence of Gaudy Art has been the beginning of domestic artists self-consciously thinking. Gaudy Art on the thinking of real life and artistic expressions in many areas may not mature, but it certainly hits the crux of the culture at that time: secular, imitating and transplantation superficial understanding of Western culture, from that point of view, Gaudy Art has become representative in 90's of last century. Political Pop impacted Gaudy Art greatly, but it is based on the memory of the Cultural Revolution, deeply marked with the brand of that era. Represented by Fang Lijun, Cynical realism is the artistic expression that represented that generation of people living in the boring and empty feeling, it has a significant impact on Gaudy Art as a absurd style. Cartoon as the art form later than Gaudy Art, has been impacted by Gaudy Art greatly. But because of the limitations of the author own identity and the differences of regional culture, it only is a branch of the art 90 years, and can not be a resounding start. In view of the importance of Gaudy Art, the method of literature study was mainly used in the research. Firstly, by collecting the China Gaudy Art Research, published writings and literature in 1990's, which were researched by the home and abroad scholars in recent years. Then these data were analyzed and researched profoundly. So the information which is about the problems of the 90's Gaudy Art development were obtained. Secondly, the image data collected include viewing the subject matter of this thesis, the exhibition and from the pictures, art magazines channels Gaudy Art picture. By watching the Gaudy Art Exhibition and appreciation of pictures, this art style was deep understood. Finally, the hypothesis of this paper was proposed, a variety of thinking were used, my own research system and framework were formed.The thesis is divided into four parts: In the first part, the background of China Gaudy Art was deep studied, mainly analyzed from the age background and cultural background. The age background included these respects: the increasingly popular consumer culture in China, the increasing tendency of public secular aesthetic. The cultural background contained these respects; Western art, Chinese traditional culture and national contemporary art trend. In the second part, the generation of Gaudy Art was introduced, and several representative works of the Gaudy Art artist were analyzed in detail. The basic characteristics of Gaudy Art works were summarized from the color, theme, material and described method. In the aspect of the color use, the folk art and popular culture were studied, not mixed with the basic hue (colors), sophisticated, high purity of color and strong color contrast were used, to achieve the artistic effect of eye-catching and stimulating. Then the influence of mass consumer culture" peasant-style outbreak fun " was expressed. In the aspect of the theme, Gaudy artists used the symbols which are general daily and closed to ordinary people living, such as radish, cabbage, dinner, and so on. In the choice of materials, in order to express the created ideas, in addition to using the traditional easel painting , the artist also try to use other forms of folk art and popular culture by the use of materials such as paper cutting, paintings, embroidery, couplets, printing, clay, lacquer, ceramics, etc. They used planar, advertising-oriented approach to process the screen, in order to achieve the visual effect of the new paintings, new posters. In the third section, the positive and negative aspects of Gaudy Art were evaluated. In the fourth part, the enlightenment that Gaudy Art has on contemporary art in China was discussed.By the research of 90's Gaudy Art in China, we can have a clearer understanding of this art's characteristics and development status. And, it can provide the experience of development of Chinese contemporary art. Tour arguments were proposed in this paper. First of all, the gaudy artist is neither serious critics nor politicians, they do not want to show the attitude of radical preaching a face, can not change their social status and cultural context, only able to use the art of irony means for the public to re-sensitize the nerve numbness. Secondly, the Gaudy Art which has impacts on the searching the development direction of Chinese contemporary art were preliminary discussed. Thirdly, the increasingly popular consumer culture will become the object which is the attention of the Chinese contemporary art and the focus of performance by the Gaudy Art. Fourthly, the prevalence of consumer culture also proposes the new challenge to the creation of Chinese Gaudy Art.
