Based on the inspection of successive mentoring relationship betweeen YuYue and Zhang Binglin, Zhang Binglin and Zhou brothers, Zhou Zuoren and his followers in Kuyuzhai, with "betrayal against teacher" as the main narrative node,the paper developes its discussion by reviewing the factors that have infulenced the change of master-apprentice ethics in the period of late Qing Dynasty and the Minguo,which on one hand, reveals the richness of modern transformation of the traditional mentoring relationship, on the other hand manifests the vital existence of mentoring relationship under the invasion of foreign educational system and therefore afford an more reliable historical imaginary space for the trend of contemporary teacher-student relationship.On the basis of narrating the background of ShuYuan's change between the fall of Ming and the rise of Qing, focusing on Gujingjingshe, the Introduction and Chapter 1, sticking to the topic with Qian Mu's debate on "tradition teacher" and "non-traditional teacher",trace the prehistory master-apprentice ethics and investigate the mentoring relationship between Yu Yue and Zhang Binglin by using the terms sunch as "differentiating Chinese from foreigners" and "spirit of study of Confucian classics".In Chapter 2, the author makes an detailed review on the impact caused by foreign theories to old-fashioned mentoring relationship, then analyze a phenomenon among Zhang Binglin's disciples which can be exactly described as "respecting the master but betray his doctrine".Mainly based on Zhou Zuoren and his Kuyuzhai followers and with comparison to Huang Kan and his desciples,Chapter 3 comes up with a new concept named "space of master and apprentice" through which the functional mechanism of mentoring renlationship under modern educational system is clearly revealed.
