Since the 1947, the American Novelist Carson McCullers has become a superstar in the Literary world by writing her work The Heart is A Lonely Hunter. From then on she wrote several novels including Reflections in a Golden Eye (1941),The Ballad of the sad cafe(1941),The Member of The Wedding(1946).Because of the profound content and the original character in her novels, Carson McCullers expressed her unique views on gender and established her fame on the history of South American Literature.This essay is mainly discussing on Carson McCullers's four novels by using the method of closing reading, as well as the theory of Feminism, from the Perspectives of Gender Identity. It's trying to analyze the gender concept of Carson McCullers which interpretation by Androgyny. It is also trying to do a discussion on the two dimensions from the significance.The paper consists of four chapters. The first chapter introduces the "androgyny" images and points out that they're not the real androgyny images because of the confused from their heart. The second chapter discusses the reason of the abnormal androgyny images. This chapter based on the social and ethical environment in the text to discuss that traditional concepts and modern factors of binary gender role is to create characters, while the root causes of gender confusion. The third chapters develop on the basis of the former chapters, Indicating that the social life is a indispensable reason of McCullers's gender theory to take shape. Due to the personal life experience and social environment of Writer, the cultural diversity combined directly effect McCullers prompted her unique gender concept. The fourth chapter explore the significances and the limitations of the gender theory of McCullers. The epilogue analyses the gender views of McCullers according to the misunderstanding from Queer theory, it finally indicate that pursue equality between the sexes is the real intension of McCullers, rather than vaguely sexual.
