Ever since she has mounted the literary arena in late 1970s, Tie Ning has created substantial works of various styles where the female takes leading character. Just like other female writers of her time, Tie Ning is influenced by feminine self-approval and historical continuity, and has experienced a journey from covering up to openness. Owing to environmental influence, the early time work of Tie Ning has displayed collective approval, but because of her sincere yet enthusiastic manner, the ideology content of the work has been diluted. While displaying common demand of the time, these works could also surmount collective fetters, and reveal distinctive literature characteristics, thus "safely" walking on a balance beam between collective writing and individual writing. And it is precious for Tie Ning to attach close attention to problems of individuals and society from a view of female. She holds a rational and dialectical manner toward writing and female, and discusses gender issues while overcoming the sense of gender; she also proposes "the perspective of third gender", and her works display not only "esthetic" beauty but also ugliness, and a dual variations from"self appreciation"to "self examination". She has paid attention to human nature, the anxiety of existence in the modern society and contradictions as well as dilemmas of the heart, which symbolizes that Tie Ning's creation is becoming increasingly open and more and more closer to the essence of literature. This paper is divided into four chapters. The first chapter is about the historical continuity that the self approval of female has been suspended. When female literature grows with the development of the history, the self-knowledge of female begins to advance in the new period. The second chapter discusses Tie Ning's recognition and transition of the collective identity during her self-proclaimed "sincere and artificial" period. In the late 1970s, the psychology of her works displays collective recognition, but her sincere attitude toward literature and attention to the daily life make her transcend the fetter of collectivity. While giving full play to the common aspiration of the time, her work if full of distinctive literature appeal, which enables her to walk safely on the balance beam of collective writing and personal writing. The third chapter explains that Tie Ning doesn't create female image from a perspective of woman from the outset, and the sense of self-approval in her works has gone through a process of covering up to openness as the result of the limitation of the time and self-recognition. The first quarter reveals that women's sense of self-approval in Tie Ning's early writing is in the bud; the second quarter illustrates different opinions of Tie Ning toward women's self identity after "three heaps series" in 1986, for example, her description of women turns from female appearance and characters to physical and in-depth mental condition, or after looking back on the fate of traditional women, she averts or subverts the traditional maternal and wife image, revealing female's physical beauty and their instinctive desires with bold linguistic description, and presenting the double traits of "the aesthetic beauty" and "ugliness", "self appreciation" and "self examination".The fourth chapter reveals psychological contradiction of her characters. In the first quarter, the contradiction resulted from the pursuit of social identity and inner self is put forward, and in the second quarter explains the conflict springing from true self and alienated self.In conclusion, Tie Ning's works have unique personality. She has overcome the limitation of the time, which makes her perspective more perceptive and unique:her description of modern society is furthered, the description of human nature acute, the entire style deep and open, mature and irradical.
