Many things needed to be done to rejuvenate the new-born country in the 1950s, when it was just few years after the founding of the People's Republic of China. The whole country threw itself into the powerful current of political and economic construction during that period. Taking this period as the background of it, this thesis researches into the economic transition of Qinghai pasturing area during the 1950s, the situation from 1953 to 1958 serving as a key discussion point. In the process of investigating, Zeku county is selected to act as an sample through which the economic transition of Qinghai province can be learned about, because as both a pasturing county and Tibetan county, Zeku is typical and representative among all counties in Qinghai province. This thesis aims at revealing the track of economic transition in the whole Qinghai province during the 1950s by studying the situation of Zeku county.Starting with the real circumstances and crises appearing in the economic development of Qinghai pasturing area before the 1950s, the thesis describes the confrontations among different political powers then, which had a bad influence on the stability and economic development of Qinghai pasturing area, and draws a conclusion that the biggest threat and restriction of economic development in Qinghai pasturing area then was the lack of a strong state power which could outmarch those local forces. On that basis, the thesis also recounts that the founding of the People's Republic of China provided a chance in a life time for the solving of that problem, and that the political integration necessarily required an economic integration, which made the economic transform in that area an inevitable choice. In the main body that followed, having the state-led economic construction after the completion of political power construction as its key topic, the thesis describes concretely the transition of various economic sectors of Zeku county, the typical representative of Qinghai pasturing area, during the 1950s. It was obvious that the state had a great intervention into the economic development there, which was a characteristic of that era, and the intervention became stronger and stronger no matter in the existing private sectors or the emerging state-owned sectors, which caused a sense of organization and discipline to show its face in people's economic life. Hereafter, the thesis inquires into the results of economic changes of Qinghai pasturing area during the 1950s from the perspectives of economy as well as people's life respectively. In the end of the thesis, the advantages and disadvantages, gains and losses, experiences, and lessons drawn from the economic transition of Qinghai pasturing area during the 1950s are all be considered.
