As a most widely spoken language, English has been playing a more and more important role in international communication and cooporation. As each country has their own special cultural identification in value, religion belief, customs and so on, English learners have to learn not just a language itself but also the culture bound to the language. Therefore, modern English teaching should shift the focus from language skills teaching to communication of ideas and culture as a result of cultural difference. To promote mutual understanding among diverse cultures, College English teaching should respect different cultures and implement culture education according to scheduled objectives and plans.In the first part, the paper discusses the definition of"interculture"and"intercultural education". It lists some facts and researches related to intercultural education. It analyzes the present situation of intercultural education at home and abroad. Meanwhile, it points out some disadvantages in theories and practice of intercultural education in China. In Chapter Two, it mainly analyzes the necessity of intercultural education. Intercultural education is the need of language and cultural difference at the first place. It is the need of promoting college students'social development. It also helps to communicate culture and develop native culture and furthermore meet the trend of the internationization of higher education. The third part studies the disadvantages and main problems of cultural education in college English teaching. In the fourth part, It puts forward some practical suggestions on intercultural education. For example, to clarify the specific objectives of intercultural education; to improve intercultural awareness and qualification of English teachers; to better the further education way and content of English teachers; to guide students to form proper attitude towards interculture; to increase contents of intercultural education; to select proper teaching methods suitable for intercultural education.The ultimate aim of intercultural education is to improve students'intercultural study and communicative competence and meanwhile guide students to gain plentiful intercultural knowledge and form respectful, tolerate, equal and open intercultural attitude and effective intercultural communication.
