The socio-cultural transformation and evolution is China boomed around the May 4th Movement. Therefore, many translators pay very attention to translation and development of foreign literature. based on the socio-cultural background at that period, this dissertation observes, analyses and studies the phenomenon of the Chinese translation of English poems at this special Chinese historical period around the he May 4th Movement from the perspectives of the socio-cultural psychology, the socio-cultural function.The dissertation consists of three chapters:The first chapter focuses on the three stages of development of modern poetry translation and Point out special cultural background of poetry translation around the May 4th Movement, which lay the foundation and pave the road for this second, three chapters. Chapter two starts from contradictions and evolution of Cultural psychology. First, discuss the contradictory psychology value orientation, and show the translation and struggle of translators and Translated literature, And discuss utilitarianism and aesthetic value is both the unity of the opposites, and community. And then comment the change of theme reveal that the language of the translated poems changes. Chapter three, entitled as the socio-culture function of English poetry translation in China around the May 4th Movement, mainly concerns the main manifestation in new culture movement, the form of new poetry and idea of people , inquiring into its influences on and constraints of early Chinese poetry. The conclusion summarizes the main view and findings of the research, points out the limitation of the dissertation, and proposes research questions for future studies.
