After lengthy waiting and eager longing, (we saw that) Professor Xiaogeng's work, Yunnan's Echo:A Collection of Xiaogeng's Choruses was finally published. It includes Professor Xiaogeng's 13 originals and 4 adaptations. Xiaogeng is a prolific and successful native composer. His works are filled with passion for the precious laterite of Yunnan, which in its turn endows him with endless afflatus. He is always pursuing to actively experiment and explore modern composing techniques and to merge modern chorus composing techniques with Yunnan folk music elements. This paper selects several important pieces from the collection such as The Nest of Sparrow, Water Striders, Coming Home, and The Babbling Stream for mixed chorus a cappella with an emphasis on analyzing these pieces and on classifying and summarizing his creation techniques of choruses. I will also make some suggestions on how to rehearse these pieces based on my conducting experience for Yunnan Nie'er Choir in the 14th CCTV Young Singers Championship in 2010.
