Study On Taoist Music Of Bixia Temple In Mt. Taishan

The formation and development of Taoist music in Mt. Taishan is closely related to the rich history and culture of the mountain. Due to the historical particularity, folk beliefs about Mt. Taishan, ancient monarch's sacrificial offering and Taoism in Mt. Taishan affected each other, which created the atmosphere for the development of Taoist music in Mt. Taishan. Firstly, the author introduced historical origin and cultural background of Taoist music in Mt. Taishan from three aspects namely beliefs about Mt. Taishan, ancient monarch's sacrificial offering and Taoism in Mt. Taishan. Secondly, the author carried out a field investigation to collect and record religious ritual and survey Taoism music from the perspective of ceremony in order to find the music's function and interaction from the combination of music and ritual. In addition, the musical form of the collected and recorded music was analyzed from two aspects namely rhythmic music and instrumental music in order to summarize laws of Taoist music in Mt. Taishan. Because of special historical causes and reasons, Taoism music in Mt. Taishan demonstrates consistency with the music for royal sacrifices of ancient court, which was discussed from two aspects namely historical institutionalism and the music as such so as to achieve a more reasonable and scientific cognition of this historical phenomenon.
