As the famous Zheng player, educationalist, as well as reformer in China's modern time, He Baoquan has studied the playing skills and music styles of many Zheng schools during his fifty educational and performing years. Based on other schools'skills, he has formed his own unique teaching methods and performing styles.As the result of learning from folk artisans, he has inherited systematically the genuine and traditional philosophy aesthetic thoughts, and meanwhile also has mastered the traditional playing skills. Ten years'Zheng teaching experience in Shanghai Conservatory of Music, a conservatory which combined the traditional thoughts with the modern western thoughts in teaching, has endowed him the thought full of modern, scientific, as well as rational. The traditional and cultural eastern system combined with the modern, scientific western system have formed his own artistic thoughts, performing style as well as playing skills. And this is the reason why we take him as our subject.Taking He Baoquan's Zheng playing styles and skills as the subject, this article illustrates the scientific and traditional characters of playing styles and skills. And the article also studies performing skills and styles of the representative pieces of five Zheng schools, such as, Shoot Wid-Goose(Da Yan),The Autumn Moon Over the Han PalacefHan Gong Qiu Yue), Night Rain by the Banana-Shadowed Window (Jiao Chuang Ye Yu), Miss Green Willow (Liu Qing Niang) and The Moon Is HighfYue Er Gao). And this is also a stage summary to He's Zheng playing and teaching.
