Cheng Xuanying, who is a Taoist priest at the early Tang dynasty, commentaries Zhuang Zi of thirty-three essays which based on Zhuang Zi and Zhuang Zi's notes of Guo Xiang. The Paraphrases to Zhuang Zi reflects two parts: in the philosophical field, it explain Zhuang Zi with transcendentalism, Lao, Zhuang, Buddhism and Confucianism; and in literary one ,he summarites"San Yan"and high evaluation to Zhuang Zi. The Paraphrases is complete and meaningful whole, and shows the style of modest and plain, and the character of combined excess and deficiency, and the form of essays. It have the nature of literature uniquely.There are four parts in my articles except for the foreword and the end. In the foreword, I introduce Cheng Xuanying's experience, his works and the study present situation, method and target of the article.In the first chapter, I explain the special text's structure and the rhetoric means of metaphor of the works. In the second one, I introduce its conception of"San Yan"and evaluation to Zhuang Zi.In the third one, I introduce its own nature of literature about the Paraphrase from the form of notes and commentaries, explanations of words and the form of essays. In the four one, I analyze the reasons of literary nature from the background of the era, the development of literature and the writer own.
