This paper, through contras between watercolor and traditional Chinese painting of different historical periods, analysis common ground between watercolor and traditional Chinese painting on painting techniques and pursuit. Watercolor and traditional painting have different development patterns in different in different historical periods. The final end-result of this paper is to make the development venation and the painting pursuit of them clear, with a purpose of exploring watercolor construction with China's connotation. I hope this paper can play a positive role in my watercolor practice. So my art works can have a"China Wind"watercolor style. Chinese Gongbi is an very important component apart from Chinese literati painting in Chinese painting. Relative to the literati paintings, her biggest feature is to put the fine portray of the physical object as the most important pursuit of the screen. Compared to traditional watercolors, the fundamental pursuit of techniques can be said the closest part between Chinese and Western artistic traditional painting. However, watercolor painting and traditional Chinese literati painting is totally different from the fundamental pursuit. The pursuit of traditional watercolor is the realistic feature which is minor detail in Chinese literati painting. But in the technique, the two but get a lot more in common, that is they two both use the block surface modeling. Image watercolor paintings and traditional Chinese literati painting have achieved a consensus on the fundamental pursuit of both the performance of the pursuit of meaning. But the Chinese literati paintings are still confined to the pursuit of their own system. And they do not have some exchanges with image watercolor in the broader space. The traditional Chinese Gongbi although make a change of their system that they accepted the "meaning" performance to a certain extent, but they failed to make the most substantial changes.Image painting is simply a natural object-image with the inner thoughts and feelings of the creator. Here, the express emotion is the ultimate pursuit of painting. Watercolor imitation of nature is no longer important. China Gongbi can no longer be simply the pursuit of "should things pictographic". Chinese literati paintings can also have a new form and a new connotation on the pursuit of meaning. In my personal opinion, we can understand image painting even more bravely in a way breaking the limitations of various disciplines of the arts. As long as they are united in the category of expressing"meaning", the so-called watercolor and Chinese painting can appear only as an expression of the technique.
