Globalization has no longer been a conceptual term but a strong force around the world as we step into the 21st century. In addition to excitement and joy, globalization has brought to people unprecedented pressure. The overwhelming force presses people to look for ways of decompression, and animated films appear to qualify as a chief means of relaxation in the new century. Among the numerous animated films, Disney animated film is undoubtedly the best. This thesis,"The Cultural Connotation of Disney Animated Film", consists of three chapters, expounding from different perspectives the cultural value of Disney animated film and its impact on Chinese animated films. Chapter one focuses on the historical dimension and the early successes or failures in Disney Animation, discussing mainly from the producer–Walter's ideas on animated films and the cultural quality reflected by animated films. Chapter two discusses the changes of Disney animated film after Walter passes away. After a century's severe tests, Disney animated film has experienced ups and downs, merged a variety of culture and technology. In the huge mixed global environment, the story contents of Disney animated film, instead of becoming empty, press closer to our daily lives by drawing lessons from various techniques of live-action films. Even under the situation of serious global financial crisis, the Disney Company adhered to the established principles of making fun to people and had the animated films reorganized with tremendous pressure, which shocked the world stage. The contents of the reorganized animated films have no longer been a single performance of native American culture, but putting more emphasis on the integration of world culture and catering to the tastes of a global audience. The practice of the fusion of Chinese culture to the animated films in order to expand overseas animation market by Disney Animation Department has especially brought the world animation filmmakers astonishment. Chapter three elaborates the enlightenment brought to Chinese animation by Disney Animation. Chinese animated films appear about the same time with American animated films, but for many years, apart from the brilliance of the 1960s'ink animated films, China has long produced few animated films that have international influence. This thesis will probe into the development and direction of Chinese animation by combining with the successes and failures of Disney animated film.
