English education major in local universities is an important approach to foster qualified English teachers, mainstay and academic pacesetters of primary and secondary schools. As we know, the key to foster qualified English teachers lies in the curriculum design of normal universities. In the 21st century, English education in primary and secondary schools has taken a new step and entered a new phase, which is much more closely related to the continuous improvement of primary and secondary teachers'quality. Three factors, including the newly released English Curriculum Standard, the practical needs from students and society and English teachers'own needs of self-development, together bring up a higher requirements for English teachers of primary and secondary school in the aspect of educational belief, professional knowledge, professional competence, educational practice and research , innovation awareness, etc. Meanwhile, those requirements also put forward a new challenge for curriculum design of English education major in local universities. Therefore, it can be practically and strategically significant in enhancing the fundamental education to study the quo status and problems of curriculum design and understand how to improve it. The methodologies of literature review , comparative analysis, questionnaire survey and interview had been used in this research. Firstly, Comparative analysis was conducted on the scheme of English education major in Chongqing Normal University, Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences and Changjiang Normal College to conclude their similarities and differences. Then, questionnaires and interviews were conducted on 76 graduates of English major, 47 fresh English teachers of primary and secondary and 4 English researchers to investigate their satisfaction and expectations about curriculum design of English education major in local universities. The findings show: (1)the scheme of three institutions are quite different in the aspect of cultivating standards,servicing target and talent orientation. Meanwhile, there are some diversities in the aspect of the total period, credit assignment and a proportion of obligatory courses and selective courses even though some similarities exist such as the kind of curriculum. Also, there are some difference in some specific curriculum content. (2)The interviewees'overall satisfaction degree is relatively low, which is mainly due to inconsistence between curriculum design and cultivating objectives of English education major; unreasonable proportion of curriculum arrangement; lower-degree courses option; low proportion of teacher education curriculum and practical education curriculum; weak teacher-training and practicability of curriculum design; some fields being out of fundamental education reform. Based on these findings, some measures and proposals had been suggested to improve and perfect the curriculum design of English major in local universities, which (aimed at benefiting curriculum design reform of English major in local universities afterwards.
