French composer Gabriel Faure has an indelible contribution to French music, and also has great influence in the history of European music of 20th century. He wrote about more than 100 songs which accounts for a large part of art songs. He would like to express according to the central idea of the poet and the rhythm or the mood of a poem, so he had a wealth of creative inspiration and his art songs are noble, also has melancholy beauty and unique style.Through documentary analysis, compare and so on, this paper recognizes the life of Faure, the characteristics of his composing style, the development of French art songs, as well as the combing of poetry and piano, human voice and piano, and appreciates and analyze his art songs "Butterfly and Flower", to help readers better to grasp the singing style of Faure's art song, to learn more about the characteristics of his art songs,in order to make more profound interpretation of Faure's art songs.
