Leopold Godowsky's "53 Studies on Chopin Etudes", till now, still has been considered as the most difficult and the most complex etudes in the world. It published from 1899 to 1914. Since then till now, there are only three people who recorded the complete 53 Etudes.The author focuses on three questions:1. What is the purpose of Godowsky to write these extremely burdensome etudes?2. Why and what make the 53 studies become one of the most intractable works in the history of Piano Music?3. Is it only has the value of training and improving the pianistic technique? where is the musical value and how it embodies?This dissertation focuses on these three questions and consists of five chapters. The first chapter focuses on the purpose of the Etudes, and also talks about the way of its'arrangement. The second chapter and the third chapter focuse on the aspect of pianistic technique and the problem, which make lots of players feel hard. The fourth chapter focuses the musical value of these 53 Etudes.The conclusion of this dissertation is:Godowsky's "53 Studies on Chopin Etudes" is the work, which represent his idea "to develop the mechanical, technical and musical possibilities of pianoforte playing", to train and improve the technique that playing polyphonic, polyrhythmic and polydynamic Music, which peculiarly adapted the nature of the instrument.
