Liu Qin as a newly developed Chinese national stringed musical instrument is developing rapidly and given a world-wide attention. From the emerging of 4 string-29 Pin Liu Qin to vigorous development of contemporary Liu Qin performing art, it took just over 50 years. But in terms of playing technique and music content, the interpretation of the music has reached a high level in the artistic realm. With its clear and melodious tone, mildly soft music features as well as its artistic expression of impulsive force and explosive power, Liu Qin has been standing on the stage of contemporaty musical artsds and will continue to sparkle.Since the middle of 1980s, the diversity and multiplicity in the works of Liu Qin provides it a platform but also a chance for inheriting and innovating its artistic style; meanwhile, it also leads to the development and expansion of iperforming techniques. The diversification in the works of Liu Qin has overcome the limits of its inherent sound features and tune style, which plays a vital role in the blossom of Liu Qin art.Therefore, some modern innovative works of LiuQin which have distinctive tune features and writing techniques will be studied in this thesis in order to explore the diversification in the creation of works of LiuQin. The inheritance and innovation of the artistic expression of modern LiuQin will be analyzed and explained on various aspects of specific works including melodic shape, harmony, texture, rhythm, tempo and style of playing techniques.
