From Devine Judgement To Human Judgement

Being a household name in China, the image and the story of Bao Zheng has been on and on enriched and recreated since the Song Dynasty to the extent that the image Lord Bao becomes far away from historical reality in people's mind. By studying the literature on Bao Zheng in every period, this paper tries to reveal the evolution of Bao's image and story and make analysis on the cause and effect of the transition of literature on Bao Zheng from the perspective of God-judging to human-judging.The first part is to trace the very beginning of literature on Bao Zheng through overview on literary works related to Bao in every period and analysis on the reason that Lord Bao emerges to be the arrow crib figure from many honest and upright officials in history, and also give an brief introduction to the reason of the development and prosperity of literature on Bao Zheng.The second part is the analysis of multi-level and multi-angle to the transition from God-judging to human-judging from the perspective of the image of Bao Zheng, his way to lawsuit and the status of his role in literature text.The third part makes an analysis on the reason of transition from God-judging to human-judging in literature on Bao Zheng by combining social historical factor as well as the inner rules of literature, and analyzes the effect of this transition on Chinese novels so as to inspect the development and decline of court-case novels in China.
