This paper is dedicated to the research on the theoretical and practical application of the thought of the harmony of man with nature to modern commercial trade show. Firstly, the paper starts from the historical review of the thought and conclude the methodology, humanistic theory and ecological view as implied therein; secondly, the paper tends to recognize the development status and questions available in the existing commercial trade show design by tracing its historic origin so as to integrate the functional perspective, humanistic theory and ecological view with trade show design and thus propose new ideas and trend of the trade show design practice on the basis of probing into the essence of such questions. Besides, the design cases are also taken into consideration to summarize effective practice methods of the thought of the harmony of man with nature in modern trade show design, on which basis to guidethe specific design of the new show hall of SUMEC Group.The author tends to carry out the study from the following aspects as deducted from the thought of the harmony of man with nature: 1. the proposal of the design methodology that"unity of form and spirit"on the basis of the methodology of the above-mentioned harmony thought so as to fulfill such design objectives as"spirit first","balance of outward grace and solid worth"and"golden mean in appropriate measure"from the publicizing flow and requirement of the trade show information; 2. The proposal of the human-oriented design origin on the basis of the humanistic theory of the above-mentioned harmony thought, believing that the factor of"human being"must be paid great attention in the course of show design and planning, which is not only represented in the human-oriented hardware structure but also the human-oriented publicizing means and content; 3. the proposal the principle"co-existence"on the basis of the ecological view in the above-mentioned harmony thought, believing that the realization of"co-existence"should be obtained upon the integration of exhibition environment as demanded by the audiences with human beings, which is achieved by LCA and the modularization of constructions on the base of the entire lifecycle of the exhibition products. Upon such viewpoints as mentioned, more attention is paid to the extension of the practical methods thereof so as to guide the design practice of exhibition hall of SUMEC Group, and finally, to prospect the future developing trends of the trade show design.
