| Bernhard karlgren is the most influencial sinologist in Sweden,his masterpiece Etudes sur la phonologie chinoise marked a new start of the Chinese historical phonetics.As an important part of Chinese historical phonetics,it has drawn the strong response at home and abroad since it was published, and a series of study and debate have been arisen between scholars on it, they revised, supplemented and gradually perfected the reconstruction of phonology of QieRhyme based on it. Karlgren's reconstruction was in accordance with fanqie existed in GuangRhyme or TangRhyme which retained in kangxi Dictiongary,so many scholars pointed that Etudes sur la phonologie chinoise constructed GuangRhyme used secondhand materials which made the credibility of the conclusions constructed tremendously discount.But the extent of secondhand materials in Karlgren's fanqie is worth to deeply research.By compiled and comparison,there is 3116 character in ancient sound character category in Etudes sur la phonologie chinoise,3099 character are from kangxi Dictiongary,and the other 17 which cannot find their source.Compared to the corrected GuangRhyme,the same status of phonetic is up to 98.78%,there are 38 character mistook by Karlgren, the proportion reached 1.22% in 3116 which should be comparatively low.Fanqie in Ancient sound character category mainly based on phonetics book's fanqie quoted by kangxizidian.Karlgren never saw the book named guangyun,not to mention the book by collated named guangyunjiaoben and etc.Although beiqie character and fanqie character are mistaken or different from other place in kangxi Dictiongary,Karlgren carefully trialed or refined every fanqie,restored as much as possible,made it close to the truth of history,in fact,Karlgren had done this,undoubtedly can be named creation.Karlgren used secondhand materials,but he narrowly high-leveled checked them which could be satisfied with the requirement of first-hand materials.
