Timbre difference is great between the style of folk singing and popular singing, each has its timbre charming, artistic characteristics, unchangeable status and mass audience. Everything has its unique appearance and regulation, so as the two styles which have totally different paths of development, aesthetic pursuit, and artistic characteristics from which resulted the different singing techniques between the two styles. The different singing techniques are the direct factors of forming the instinct timbres of them. Therefore, the thesis, based on the former studies, and from the aspect of the influence on timbre of vocal organs, aims at finding their unique singing technical regulation and singing technique utilization so that grasp the essence of singing technical difference through the timbre characteristics.The thesis is divided into three main parts; the first part mainly summarizes the conceptions and development of folk and popular singing style, and highlights the research subjective and scope. The second part analyzes the relationship of the causes of singing timbre, singing timbre and human vocal organs from the aspect of acoustics. Significantly the second part focuses on the impact of breathing, vocal cords, and the regulation of resonance cavity on the singing timbre. The third part, on the basis of the second part, of one singer's two singing styles of a song, or of singers with different singing styles of singing one song, of quoting powerful and reliable acoustic checking results, of following the rule of comparability, further and in detail compare the relationship between folk singing and popular singing style through timbre and singing techniques; finally finds out that the different utilization of singing technique brought about the timbre difference of folk singing and popular singing styles. Consequently, this thesis concludes that the folk singing style gains the timbre feature that is mellow, full and bright because of the utilization of mixed resonance, deep breathing; while the popular singing utilizes the techniques of partial resonance and shallow breathing which forms the features of a natural and individual timbre.
