Using which strategy is influenced by translator's purpose, fits demands of ideology, embodies translator's life and cultural attitude and realizes readers'expectation. Lin Yutang's translation strategy is closely interrelated to his life and cultural attitudes. He transmits Chinese classical culture selectively and diplomatically. In this way, foreignization and domestication connect perfectly.The dissertation aims to research Lin Yutang's translation strategy of Six Chapters of a Floating Life, which can give enlightenment to Chinese translators. Through the review of foreignization and domestication, the introduction of"Six Chapters of a Floating Life", review of Lin Yutang and his version and Lin's translation thoughts, the dissertation gives that the translator can fuse his translation thoughts flexibly in the translation of"Six Chapters of a Floating Life". Because of the relationship among language, culture and translation, we see the importance of culture in the process of translation, and the choice of translator's translation strategies is also influenced by cultural factors. Through the analysis of cultural factors, we see Lin's version can combine foreignization and domestication perfectly, which embodies the great research value of this version.Lin Yutang, a renowned writer, not only creates many literature works which are known to all, but also translate many Chinese ancient works. Among which Six Chapters of a Floating Life is considered to be his best translation. Through the simple introduction of Lin Yutang's life and works, the dissertation narrates Lin Yutang's attitude and opinion in translation. His main thought of translation is"faithfulness, expressiveness and beauty". He focuses on"spirituality"of translation, and he thinks translations should have the beauty of"Hsingling". The translation of Six Chapters of a Floating Life is his translation which embodies his profound translation ability. And translations of names (person's name, place name, food's name), time, units of measure, festivals, four-character phrases, poetry, and other specific cultures are connected with two translation strategies.Foreignization and domestication are two translation strategies which are in accordance with today's ever-increasing world development.
