In the methods of the modern composing, it's popular for us to use the pentatonic factors, especially in the creation of the modern music. Among the Pentatonic factors, there are 5 voice of scale, mode and harmony. Among his piano works (prelude I and II), Debussy uses Pentatonic factors as one of his major composing methods.Debussy's spirit of innovation forces him to be interested in the music of the different countries and does research to it, for example, the oriental music, Russia music etc. At the same time, he reformed the expressive methods of the classic music by sucking the nutrient from the ancient Palestrina & Gregorian chant and the 16th century France ballad. In these processes, the use of pentatonic factors plays a great role.Doing research of Debussy's piano works can enrich the researching field of the methodology of the western composing. We study the Pentatonic factors in eastern musical works as well as the western ones and compare them, for only in this way can we find the differences between them. What's more, in this way, we can expand our research of the pentatonic factors and promote the research of the composing methodology. There are three parts in this paper: the first part is about the research of Debussy's Preludes for piano, the second part pays more attention to the Pentatonic factors in it while in the third part, the writer compares the differences pentatonic factors between eastern and western music so as to research the artistic charm in Debussy's music.
